It appears that there will soon be a new addition to
the local Renault lineup – reader Amirul Shaidi has sent in photos of the
latest Renault Megane IV undergoing on-road testing in Malaysia.
As with the Clio, the larger C-segment hatchback is
dressed in GT form, identifiable by the more aggressive front and rear bumper
designs, a rear diffuser with dual chrome exhaust exits, gunmetal 17-inch alloy
wheels and darker exterior highlights, including the door mirror caps. Sports
seats, blue highlights and a unique steering wheel rim are to be expected
inside.
There’s no indication of what will power the
Malaysian-spec Megane, but the GT is available in other markets with a choice
of two petrol mills. There’s the 1.2 litre Energy TCe turbocharged
four-cylinder engine from the Clio GT, but it’s been boosted to 130 PS and 205
Nm of torque.
But the more powerful of the two is a 1.6 litre
version that kicks out 205 PS and 280 Nm, which puts it firmly in the
Volkswagen Golf GTI’s sights. Both engines are mated to a seven-speed dry
Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) transmission.
