The Munich firm has unveiled two more new models in the
Malaysian market- the 2017 BMW Motorrad S 1000 R at RM 92,900, and the 2017 BMW Motorrad
R 1200 GS Adventure at RM 116,900. Prices include GST, but exclude insurance.
In the litre-class is BMW’s 2017 S 1000 R naked
sports bike, which is now fully Euro 4 compliant with its updated 999 cc inline
four-cylinder power plant that pumps out 165 hp at 11,000 rpm and 114 Nm of
torque at 9,250 rpm. This is an increase of 5 hp over the previous version’s
160 hp, and weighs 2 kg less, dropping to 205kg from 207 kg.
Coming as standard equipment is a HP – High
Performance in BMW Motorrad parlance – titanium end-can that gives “an even
more potent sound.” Also standard are vibration-decoupled handlebars and
re-designed upper triple clamp, isolating the rider from the engine vibration
for better handling, comfort and pleasure.
The 2017 BMW S 1000 R at RM 92,900 also comes with
two ride modes – Road and Rain – as well as automatic stability control (ASC)
as standard, along with ABS. Two colour schemes are on offer, which are Racing
Red/Blackstorm and Catalano Grey.
As the de facto standard by which all dual-purpose
adventure bikes are judged, the 2017 BMW Motorrad R 1200 GS Adventure has been
updated with a judder damper on the transmission output shaft to reduce
driveline vibration. Also revised are the selector drum actuator, transmission
shafts and shaft bearing.
Now coming in a “Triple Black” finish, the R 1200 GS
Adventure features a central fuel tank cover, storage compartment lid and front
mudguard in Blackstorm and fuel tank side panels in Dark Slate. Meanwhile, the
the frame and sub-frame are coated in Agate Grey, with the engine, gearbox and
swinging arm in Black, complemented by a black seat with the “GS” logo embossed
on the passenger seat.
