Seeing a mid-year update is the 2017 Honda RS150R supercub, which comes in three new colour schemes – Candy Scintillate Red and Pearl Nightfall Blue at RM 8,478 while the Pearl Metallic White (Trico) and Repsol (carried over from 2016) versions cost RM 8,796. Prices include GST, but exclude road tax, insurance and registration, and the RS150R comes with a two-year or 20,000 km manufacturing warranty, whichever comes first.

Carrying a liquid-cooled 149.7 cc, four-valve DOHC engine that produces 15.6 horsepower at 9,000 rpm and 13.5 Nm torque at 6,500 rpm, the RS150R gets power to the ground via a six-speed gearbox and manual clutch, with chain final drive. The single-cylinder mill is fed by Honda’s PGM-FI, which makes the RS150R Euro 3 compliant.

A welded construction twin-perimeter frame cradles the engine, with non-adjustable telescopic forks in front, and a single shock absorber at the rear. There is an underseat storage compartment and the instrument cluster features an analogue speedometer with LCD screen showing relevant information such as fuel gauge, odometer and clock.

Weight for the RS150R is claimed to be 122 kg, with the seat height coming in at 764 mm. Braking is with hydraulic discs front and back, using discs measuring 296 mm and 190 mm respectively. Cast alloy wheels are standard, and the headlights use LEDs to light the way, with fuel carried in a 4.5-litre tank under the seat.

The 2017 Honda RS150R will be available in all Honda dealer showrooms from August 7. Direct competition to the Honda RS150R is the Yamaha Y15ZR, which retails for RM 8,361 in 2017 and comes in three colours.
