Mitsubishi Motors has listed the Outlander on the
official Indian website. The ‘Coming Soon’ signals the imminent launch of the
SUV. It will mark the return of the Outlander badge to India following its
discontinuation in June 2013.
The India-bound Mitsubishi Outlander is the 2016
model. It features the company’s “Dynamic Shield” design language with a
front-end inspired by the XR-PHEV II concept.
The nose of the SUV gets a generous helping of chrome along with a dual
tone body colour-gloss black bumper. Mitsubishi will offer the Outlander with
LED fog lamps and LED headlamps.
The website also shares an image of the cabin, which
shows three rows of seats finished in black leather. The sounds system is a
Rockford Fosgate Premium unit with a 6.1-inch touchscreen and a 710W 8-channel
high-power amplifier. Other features include an electric sunroof, dual zone
climate control, electric parking brake with auto hold function, and keyless
entry with push button start.
While the webpage does not specify the exact
specifications and engine options, it is expected to come with a 2.4 L MIVEC
petrol engine. What is confirmed, however, is that the engine will be mated to
a CVT with paddle shifters and there will be AWD on offer. Mitsubishi will load
up the Outlander with ABS & EBD and Active stability control (ASC).
An exact timeline of the Mitsubishi Outlander
India launch is not known. The SUV could likely go on sale this festive season.
It is expected to come to India via the CBU route and if so, the price could be
well north of INR 30 lakhs (ex-showroom).
