The Toyota C-HR public preview has now begun in
Malaysia, with the highly-anticipated model making its first stop at the Toyota
showroom in Section 19, Petaling Jaya.
The car you see here is the
same show car that was presented to us earlier in May this year, which was
brought in from Australia. As a result, the specifications here do not fully
represent the local-spec version we will get, but it will be close to it.
Where a 1.8 litre Dual VVT-i petrol engine will
power the Malaysian-spec C-HR, under the bonnet of this show car is an 8NR-FTS
1.2 litre turbocharged four-pot (115 PS/185 Nm) instead. Both mills are paired
with a CVT that sends drive to the front wheels.
The car you see here also comes with the Toyota
Safety Sense suite that includes systems such as Pre-Collision Safety, Active
Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Forward
Collision Warning and Automatic High Beam.
As for the rest of the equipment, there’s 4.2-inch
multi-info display within the instrument cluster, halogen projector headlights
with LED DRLs, dual-zone automatic air-con, 17-inch alloy wheels and fabric
seats. Once again, these specifications may or may not make it to C-HR that
Malaysians will get, so keep that in mind.
Aside from the engine and transmission, UMW Toyota
revealed the local-spec C-HR will receive follow-me-home headlights, puddle
lights, UMW Toyota head unit and rear cross traffic alert (also found on the
Australian-spec car together with a blind spot monitor).
You’ll also notice the cabin’s diamond theme, with
the motif seen on the door cards, headliner, buttons and door sills. There are soft-touch plastics on the
top of the dashboard, which is “quite impressive” and “above the class
average,”.
