The Toyota Hiace will continue in its fifth
generation for at least a year. According to a report from sankoh-jp.com,
Toyota will give the current Hiace an upgrade in Japan this December.
No concrete details about the new Toyota Hiace are available
yet. Rumours are rife of safety equipment and engine improvements as a part of
the upgrade. The Toyota Hiace is currently offered with 1TR-FE 2.0L petrol,
2TR-FE 2.7L petrol, 2KD-FTV 2.5-litre diesel, 1KD-FTV 3.0L diesel and 5L-E 3.0L
diesel engines.
Safety features are limited to basic equipment such
as dual-front airbags, ABS, BA, VSC, ESS and HAC. It’s unknown if the safety
equipment upgrade to the van will bring the Toyota Safety Sense suite of
advanced active safety features. Automatic high-beam, lane departure with
steering assist, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control and
pre-collision system with pedestrian detection are the highlights of the TSS
bundle.
Production of the updated Toyota Hiace will begin in
November as per the report. Toyota will officially announce the model in
December.
