The Volkswagen Transporter has received two new
petrol engine options in Europe, after previously being available in diesel
form only. Likely a response to slowing demand for diesel-powered vehicles in
Europe, the German van now gets the choice of the company’s 2.0-litre TSI turbo
petrol engine, available in two states of tune depending on the transmission
chosen.
The entry-level 150 Hp/280 Nm version is available
solely with a six-speed manual and front-wheel drive, while the peppier
204 Hp/350 Nm tune is equipped exclusively to a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch
shifter, and is available in both front- and 4Motion all-wheel drive.
Maximum torque is available from 1500 to 3750 rpm for
the 150 Hp engine, and the higher-output version sees all 350 Nm available from
1500 to 4000 rpm. Volkswagen is offering the new petrol engines across the
European Transporter range, which includes California, Caravelle Executive,
window van, Shuttle, motor home, kombi and panel van variants.
The company says the new engine options are perfect
for drivers and operators who cover low miles annually and prefer the more
“agile” performance of petrol engines.
