The Volvo S90 line-up in Thailand has now been expanded with the introduction of new plug-in hybrid variants as well as a cheaper version of the diesel-powered D4. The cars are assembled at the Swedish Motor Assemblies (SMA) plant in Shah Alam in Malaysia before being exported to Thailand, as reported by Bangkok Post.

Starting with the new S90 T8 Twin Engine, the PHEV is offered in Momentum and Inscription trims, with the latter being the more expensive of the two at 3.79 million baht, while the former asks for 3.39 million baht.

The T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid powertrain serves up 407 hp and 640 Nm, thanks to a 2.0 litre four-cylinder supercharged and turbocharged Drive-E petrol engine, along with an electric motor (87 hp/240 Nm) that is located in the rear axle. This setup provides the S90 T8 Twin Engine with an electronic all-wheel drive functionality.

In Thailand, the S90 T8 Twin Engine competes against the Mercedes-Benz E 350 e, with the German plug-in hybrid sedan making its debut there earlier in May. In its Thailand specification, the E 350 e’s powertrain has a lower total system output compared to the Volvo at 281 hp and 550 Nm.
