The Mazda CX-9 is only a couple of years old but
that hasn't stopped the company from announcing a series of updates to the 2018
model. Set to go on sale later this month, the updated CX-9 comes equipped with
several newly standard safety systems including Smart City Brake Support, Blind
Spot Monitoring, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.
The company didn't focus exclusively on safety as
the crossover also features G-Vectoring Control. According to Mazda, "GVC
uses the engine in conjunction with steering and throttle inputs to minutely
reduce engine torque, putting more weight on the front wheels and making the
steering feel more linear and direct." The company says this provides
drivers with more confidence and control.
Mazda equipped with the 2018 CX-9 will
additional sound insulation and an improved second-row seat that promises to be
more comfortable. The second-row seat has also been designed to provide easier
access to the third-row.
Power continues to be provided by a turbocharged
2.5-liter engine that produces up to 250 hp and 420 Nm of
torque. The engine is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission which can
be paired to an optional all-wheel drive system. The 2018 Mazda CX-9 will be
priced from US$ 32,130 which excludes a destination and handling fee of up to US$ 985.
