Honda has introduced the new N-Box in Japan. Looking
instantly recognizable, the redesigned model has a new front fascia with a
revised grille that is flanked by LED headlights. Of course, the car's defining
characteristic is its boxy styling which helps to create a relatively spacious
cabin.
Speaking of the interior, it features a three-spoke
steering wheel, a push-button ignition, and a multi-information display in the
instrument cluster. A variety of options will be available including GPS
navigation and Aller Clean seats which feature an antiviral upholstery
treatment.
Power is provided by a new 660 cc engine that
produces 58 PS and 65 Nm of torque. It is connected to a
continuously variable transmission which can be paired to an optional all-wheel
drive system. Customers looking for something more powerful can opt for
higher-end variants with a turbocharged engine.
Despite the familiar styling, the N-Box rides on a
new platform and is built using a new joining technique. This helps to increase
rigidity while also reducing the model's weight by approximately 80 kg.
On the safety front, the N-Box is one of the Honda's
first kei cars to be equipped with the Honda SENSING suite of driver assistance
and safety systems. Functions include Collision Mitigation Braking, False Start
Prevention, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Road Departure Mitigation. There's
also Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, and a Pedestrian Collision
Mitigation Steering System.
The Honda N-Box pricing
starts at ¥ 1,385,640 (US$ 12,576).
