Some two years after the introduction of the
RX-Vision Concept, Mazda is looking to present a new rotary study at the end of
October, at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. This
piece of information comes via AutoExpress, which spoke to the brand's Europe
VP for Research and Development, Matsuhiro Tanaka, during Frankfurt.
The show car doesn’t only preview a future
production model, but it will also influence the look of other vehicles that
will eventually hit the assembly line. Moreover, unlike the rotary-based hybrid
that's said to be in development, the new Mazda RX is believed to arrive with a
combustion engine.
And since the sports car is an important memorabilia
for the Japanese automaker, they won't turn to other car manufacturers to help
them reduce costs, as they did with the MX-5 and Fiat's 124 Spider with Tanaka
saying, “Currently we have absolutely no plans to make any such alliances.”
It's still unknown when Mazda will drop the veil off
the new production version RX, but they could do it in 2020, thus coinciding
with their centenary celebrations.
