Taiwanese EV-maker Thunder Power has returned to the IAA to showcase the latest
evolution in its electric vehicle range. Alongside the Thunder Power Sedan, on
display wearing full test camouflage, a new electric SUV concept was also
revealed as a world premiere, as was the company's dedicated EV platform.
This all-new platform comes with a 125 kWh battery,
resulting in a range of up to 650 km, whereas motor configurations
allow for up to a maximum of 430 kW.
While the Sedan received some styling and
aerodynamic enhancements to the front and rear compared to the previous
version, it's the new "Future Vision" alpha SUV concept that really
stands out thanks to Thunder Power's in-house design team based in Milan.
The SUV features a unique electrical motor and
battery configuration and loads of interior room thanks to the company's
Intelligent Packaging philosophy. It also has a sedan-like center of gravity,
which in turn increases its dynamic capabilities.
The all-new modular chassis holds a
race-inspired multi-link suspension system with an open lower triangle
architecture and a closed top triangle at the front for maximum flexibility. At
the rear, a lower wishbone and top connecting link rod eliminate the need for
having a top anchor point, which is what you normally see with a double
triangle setup.
Finally, Thunder Power is also prepping a special
edition coupe (not on display), limited to 488 units globally. This car will
feature a 4WD drivetrain with torque vectoring and will be powered by a 663 PS electric powertrain. As for its interior, the EV-maker used phrases
like "sculpted from the finest Italian leather" to describe the
ambiance.
