According to Motoring, Volkswagen will preview the
Phaeton with an all-new concept at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Little is known
about the car at this point but the concept will reportedly be an electric
vehicle that measures over 5 meters long. The model is also rumored
to have a range in excess of 600 km.
When asked about the car, Volkswagen development
boss Dr. Frank Welsch confirmed the vehicle would debut in Geneva and said the
company "definitely" hasn't given up on the idea of a flagship sedan.
Despite its flagship status, the car will ride on
the MEB platform that will underpin an assortment of other models including
production versions of the I.D. Hatch, I.D. Buzz, and I.D. Crozz II concepts.
This is a bit of change as the Phaeton shared its platform with the Bentley
Continental GT and Flying Spur. However, Welsch noted the company decided
against using Porsche's architecture as "this is not what we can afford,
even for our flagship."
