The 2018 BMW X3 has been showcased at the 2017
Frankfurt Motor Show. The 2018 iteration of the BMW X3 has largely unchanged
exterior dimensions but gets a 5 cm longer wheelbase and improved aerodynamics.
At the front, the windshield is made of acoustic glass. There’s active flap
control on the kidney grills, LED headlights and foglamps. The rear features an
automatic tailgate and twin tail pipes.
Features in the interior include an iDrive
controller with optional touchscreen and gesture control. There’s an optional
three-zone automatic climate control; ventilated driver and passenger seats. It
also features a 40:20:40 split/folding rear seat backrests with adjustable
angle.
The new BMW X3 line-up from launch consists of the
xDrive20d with a four-cylinder diesel engine, the xDrive30d with a straight-six
diesel unit, and the range-topping petrol model, the BMW X3 M40i. The company
will introduce the BMW X3 xDrive30i (in December 2017) as well as the 20i (in
mid-2018) engine variant, which will be available in both rear-wheel-drive
(sDrive) and all-wheel-drive (xDrive) versions. However, the sDrive version
will not be available in Europe.
The xDrive 20d makes 190 PS of power at 4,000 rpm
and a peak torque of 400 Nm at 1,750- 2,500 rpm. The xDrive 30d punches out 265
PS of power at 4,000 rpm and 620 Nm of torque at 2,000 – 2,500 rpm. The
xDrive30i, which will be available by the end of this year outputs 252 PS at
5,200 rpm and 350 Nm at 1,450 – 4,800 rpm. All the engines pair with an
eight-speed Steptronic transmission.
For safety, the vehicle comes with Driving Stability
Control (DSC) including ABS, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Automatic
Differential Brake (ADB-X), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake
Control (DBC), Start-Off Assistant and Hill Descent Control (HDC). The 2018 BMW
X3 is scheduled to be launched in November 2017.
