The 2018 Triumph Speed Triple has been spied by MCN.
The upgrades on the test mule are subtle, and it is unclear if the model is
still under development.
The 2018 Triumph Speed Triple looks quite identical
to the recently updated Speed Triple R & S sold in the international
markets. MCN reports that the bike features a new TFT instrument cluster, akin
to the 2017 Street Triple. Triumph has replaced the 10-spoke Y-shaped alloy
wheels with new five-spoke ones.
The bodywork around the tank and the radiator design
seem to be the same as the current bike. The engine head features grey finish
instead of black on the current bike, suggesting that the mill may be reworked.
The bike lacks an engine cowl. The black exhausts seem to be new and come with
a redesigned head shield in the brushed metal finish. The website reports that
the bike has an entirely different exhaust note and may have a higher rev
limit. As per the sources, the British bike maker does not have plans to
showcase the bike at this year’s EICMA in November.
The current generation Triumph Speed Triple S
employs a 1,050 cc inline-three DOHC engine with liquid cooling. It punches out
140 PS at 9500 rpm and 112 Nm at 7850 rpm. The powerplant mates with a 6-speed
transmission with slipper clutch.
43 mm Showa adjustable upside-down front fork and
adjustable Showa monoshock suspend the aluminium beam twin spar frame. Brakes
include twin 320 mm discs with Brembo radial callipers, and single 255 mm rear
disc with Nissin calliper. 5 riding modes, switchable traction control and ABS
are standard.
