The slightly camouflaged M3 CS has also been spotted on the track putting in work. With a new-generation 3-Series coming next year, the M3 F80 flagship will wave goodbye to BMW factory workers currently tasked with putting it together. This upcoming CS version will then be the model's swan song, offering an extra 29 horses and 50 Nm of torque.

That should bring the total to 460 PS and 600 Nm, just like on the M4 CS, which needs 3.9 seconds to get from 0 to 100 km/h. One could also assume that BMW would fit the M3 CS with the same lightweight carbon fiber-reinforced plastic parts its sibling got, meaning the roof, trunk lid spoiler, diffuser and front splitter. By the way, the M4 CS is lighter than the regular M4 by 32 kg, which sounds promising for the M3 as well.

Other M4 CS-specific mods the M3 CS could get would be the optional 6-piston front and 4-piston rear gold calipers with carbon ceramic brakes, a stiffer suspension, larger roll bars, plus 19" front and 20" rear wheels as standard.

Judging by the light camouflage and the all-new 3-Series debuting in late 2018, expect the production-ready M3 CS to roll out sooner rather than later. So either before the end of 2017 or very early on next year.
