The mildly-updated F87 BMW M2 Coupe LCI (BMW-speak
for facelift) has made its way to Malaysia, with a price of RM 535,800. This is
a slight increase over the pre-LCI model RM 499k at launch, RM 505k by 2017.
Mild really means mild here, as this refresh comes
just two years after the baby M coupe’s global unveiling in late 2015. It then
arrived in Malaysia in March 2016; fast forward another year and a half, and
here we are today. In short, M2 Coupe LCI gains full-LED headlamps (over bi-xenons)
and redesigned LED taillight graphics.
The rest of the high performance rear-wheel drive
coupe remains largely unchanged, which itself is no bad thing – it made our own
Danny Tan, usually calm and collected, go “Woohoo!” when he drove it at the BMW
M Experience 2017 in Korea. On the outside, the same aggressive BMW M widebody
styling (minus the usual M-specific wing mirrors, sadly), 19-inch wheels and
quad exhaust pipes stay on.
It’s the same story inside, with the same 2
Series-based interior that’s M-ed up with thick tri-stitched sports steering
wheel, M-specific black instrument panel that goes up to 300 km/h and seats
with M logos etched on (though otherwise identical to the standard 2 Series’).
New here is the updated iDrive UI with live tiles and touchscreen capabilities.
Apple CarPlay is available via the BMW ConnectedDrive Store too.
Under the hood is the same BMW M 3.0 litre
straight-six with 370 hp at 6,500 rpm and 465 Nm of torque from 1,400 to 4,750
rpm – with an overboost function pushing it to 500 Nm. Power gets to the rear
wheels through a seven-speed M DCT dual-clutch ‘box, for a 0-100 km/h time of
4.3 seconds.
The chassis is uprated with lightweight M Sport
suspension – now stiffer for better high-speed dynamics, but fully adaptive to
retain livable ride comfort. Unique M Servotronic steering, M compound brakes
and an electronically-controlled Active M Differential are all on, too.
Colours available here in Malaysia include Long
Beach Blue, Black Sapphire, Alpine White and Mineral Grey, with Dakota black
leather upholstery as standard. The RM 535,800 price is applicable for
Peninsular Malaysia only. It costs RM 537,986.50 in East Malaysia, or RM 331,980
in duty-free regions.
With BMW Balloon Financing via BMW Credit
Malaysia, the BMW M2 can be had from RM 6,188 a month (or from RM 3,788 a month
in duty-free territories) with an 80% loan margin. All prices include BMW
Malaysia’s five-year, unlimited mileage warranty with free scheduled service,
plus a two-year tyre warranty programme.
