General Motors has expanded its portfolio of
vehicles in China by launching yet another MPV, the Buick GL6. Fueled by the
success of the GL8, which debuted last year, the GL6 is described as "a
family-sized vehicle", which "combines the aesthetics of a sedan with
the flexibility and functionality of an SUV, and the comfort of an MPV".
On the outside, it looks similar to the Buick GL8,
while inside it has a 2+2+2 seating configuration. The manufacturer says that
its interior is "flexible", offering "ample headroom and knee
room" on the second row, thanks to the 2,796 mm wheelbase, and
independent seats with armrests, which are yet another similarity to the GL8.
Additionally, the seats can slide forward and
backward by up to 210 mm, the backrests angle can be adjusted by up to
30 degrees, and the third row is actually suitable for adults, rather than
children. Both the second and third row can be folded flat for increased
hauling.
The Buick GL6 is based on
the same underpinnings as the Opel Zafira Tourer, a decision taken before GM
sold Opel/Vauxhall to PSA. Power is said to come from a 1.3-liter turbocharged
gasoline engine, rated at 156 hp.
Buick has yet to detail each and every trim level,
but says that the new GL6 can be had in 21 grades, with prices ranging from RMB
109,900 (US$ 16,675) to RMB 185,900 (US$ 28,205).
