The new Mercedes-Benz C 200 AMG Line marks the
latest variant to join the local W205 C-Class line-up, slotting above the C 200
Avantgarde with a price of RM 254,888 (on-the-road without insurance). This
brings the C 200 offering to three flavours – Avantgarde, AMG Line and
Exclusive – and it’s available for the first time in the sporty AMG Line.
The equipment list largely mirrors the C 200
Avantgarde (RM 253,888), but for RM 1,000 more, you get the full AMG Line
makeover, starting with unique exterior bumpers, 18-inch five-spoke AMG alloy
wheels (similar to the C 250 AMG Line), flat-bottomed steering wheel and sports
suspension. It doesn’t get the panoramic sunroof and adaptive LED headlamps
like on the C 250 AMG Line, but LED high performance headlamps are standard.
Elsewhere, the kit count matches the Avantgarde,
with Artico faux leather upholstery (but not on dashboard – that’s only on the
C 200 Exclusive and C 250 AMG Line), black open-pore ash trim, analogue clock,
seven-inch Audio 20 head unit, push-start button, dual-zone automatic climate
control, roller blinds for the rear side windows and rear windscreen, Parking
Pilot and a reverse camera.
Besides the stiffer sports suspension, no changes
have been made to the mechanics. It gets the same 2.0 litre turbocharged
four-cylinder engine, producing 184 hp at 5,500 rpm and 300 Nm of torque from
1,200 to 4,000 rpm. For reference, the C 250 bumps output to 211 hp and 350 Nm.
Drive is sent to the rear wheels through the
new-for-2017 nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. The 0-100 km/h sprint
is done in 7.2 seconds and it maxes out at 235 km/h, while fuel consumption is
rated to be between 5.6 to 6.1 litres per 100 km. The usual Dynamic Select
drive modes and engine start/stop function are standard as well.
