Mitsubishi Outlander is now CKD locally assembled at Tan Chong’s
Segambut plant and available with a 2.0 litre engine. Currently, the CKD Outlander 2.0 4WD complements the
CBU imported from Japan Outlander 2.4 4WD.
Word is that Mitsubishi Motor Malaysia is looking at a CKD 2.4 litre
variant, but it’ll come at a higher price point than what we have here, which
has an introductory price of RM 139,988 until the end of 2017. The CBU 2.4
remains at RM 171,000.
The base Outlander is powered by a 2.0 litre MIVEC
engine with 145 PS and 196 Nm of torque (167 PS and 222 Nm for the 2.4L). The
naturally aspirated four-cylinder unit is paired to a CVT automatic gearbox and
MMC’s Multi Select 4WD system, which has 4WD Eco (FWD, default), 4WD Auto and
4WD Lock modes. Claimed fuel consumption is 13.7 km/l.
The CKD Outlander 2.0’s exterior does not look very
different from the 2.4. The LED DRLs, LED rear signatures, shark fin antenna,
reverse camera (with guide lines) and front/rear parking sensors are all there,
and it even gets the same 18-inch wheels. No LED headlamps though; the 2.0 gets
halogen projectors.
Inside, the 2.0 litre SUV loses the 2.4’s leather
seats, steering paddle shifters, sunroof, electronic parking brake,
auto-dimming rear view mirror, powered driver’s seat and powered tailgate. It
still gets things like keyless entry and push start, auto headlamps and wipers,
dual-zone auto air con and a 7.0-inch touchscreen head unit with Air Gesture
Controls and Apple CarPlay.
In terms of safety kit, the CKD 2.0L matches the CBU
2.4L – it comes with seven airbags, Active Stability Control and Hill Start
Assist. There’s also a new wide-angle dashcam and security and solar window
tint. The Ruby Black colour you see here is new and exclusive to both the 2.0L
variant and Malaysia – the other 2.0L colour options are Red Metallic and Solar
White. The warranty is for five years, unlimited mileage.
