Toyota could soon launch an entirely new product, based on the TJ Cruiser
Concept that's displayed in Tokyo until November 5.
Said to combine the best of both worlds by mixing
the style of an SUV with the practicality of a van, the study has a good chance
of hitting the assembly lines if it gets positive feedback from consumers,
Autocar reports.
Putting the Toyota TJ Cruiser Concept into
production should be quite easy, if it gets the go-ahead, because it's based on
the next-generation Toyota New Global Architecture, or TNGA in short, which
will eventually be adopted by most of the brand's upcoming vehicles.
It will be interesting to see what features will be
carried over from the show car, but our money would be on sliding rear doors
that provide easier access into the cabin, deck boards and tie-down points to
increase its practicality, and probably the sturdy suspension and AWD system.
The 2.0-liter hybridized powertrain is also a good
candidate in the engine family, which could be joined by an assortment of other
units.
