A simply gorgeous 1953 Chrysler Ghia Special Coupe
has appeared for sale on Hyman with an asking price of US$ 575,000.
The Ghia Special Coupe was the product of a
partnership formed in the 1950s between Chrysler and Italian coachbuilder
Carrozzeria Ghia and is underpinned by a New Yorker Deluxe chassis. Just 18
examples were built and it is thought that just eight remain in existence.
This example was originally delivered to France and
soon registered by local industrialist Leon Coulibeuf, joining his impressive
collection that included the likes of a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Coupe, Porsche 956
and Alfa Romeo 1900.
The car disappeared for a number of years before
being found by Jacques Pelve, a Chrysler dealer. A restoration commenced in the
1990s and was completed in 2001. As part of the restoration, the Ghia Special
Coupe was painted in a two-tone blue color scheme and remains in excellent
condition, despite being restored some 16 years ago. In 2015, it was shown at
the prestigious Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza.
