AutoJunk.nl has shared images of the new BMW X2. The
crossover was spotted for the first time in the flesh at the BMW Museum in
Munich. The X2 is the latest entrant in BMW’s X range of SUVs and crossovers.
This is the first ever product from the German
marquee to sport the X2 badge. The design, while unmistakably BMW, incorporates
some new elements. The signature kidney grille has been turned upside down and
is wider towards the bottom – a first for any production BMW. The insignia’s
placement on the C-pillars is reminiscent of legendary BMW models such as the
2000 CS and 3.0 CSL.
The rear features LED tail lamps, which, according
to BMW “represent a symbiosis of the T-shape lighting contour shared by other
BMW X models and the L shape familiar from BMW coupes.” The rear bears a
passing resemblance to Hyundais. Specifically the Tucson and the i30. This
particular example is finished in Galvanic Gold metallic.
One of the images also offers a glimpse of the steering
wheel and instrument console. Being the M Sport X variant, this particular
example of the BMW X2 gets the M Package steering wheel and faux carbon fibre
detailing on the dashboard. The instrument console features BMW’s
characteristic red glow. The floating touchscreen interface for iDrive is also
partially visible. There will be three variants on offers – Basic, M Sport, and
M Sport X.
BMW has announced the X2 will be making its market
premiere in March 2018. According to a recent report, BMW will bring the X2 to
India sometime next year. An Auto Expo appearance could be on the cards.
