The
2018 Royal Enfield Himalayan adventure bike will be launched locally in the
first half of 2018. Although no pricing was given, we would hazard a guess at
the Himalayan coming in at about RM 40,000 or so.
The all-new Himalayan carries the Royal Enfield L410
engine, which displaces 411 cc in a single-cylinder, overhead-cam
configuration, with liquid-cooling. Power is claimed to be 24.5 hp at 6,500 rpm
and torque is rated at 32 Nm at 4,500 rpm, with power getting to the ground via
a five-speed gearbox.
Designed as an adventure bike, the Himalayan comes
with a 21-inch wheel in front and a 17-inch hoop at the back. Seat height is
set at an accessible 800 mm, and wet weight is 183 kg, which, in relation to
the power figure, means the Himalayan is designed more for leisurely journeys
than blitzing down the highway.
Suspension up front is with a 41 mm diameter fork
giving 200 mm of travel, and a rear monoshock with a stroke of 180 mm. The all
new Himalayan chassis comes ready to accept luggage, and is made from steel to
expedite repairs when off the beaten track.
LED lighting is used in the tail light, while the
front headlight is a traditional halogen unit. Inside the cockpit, the meters
are still analogue units, with a small LCD readout for the odometer.
