The all-new 2019 Honda Insight will feature a highly
efficient hybrid powertrain as well as more conventional looks, and this
Detroit-bound prototype is here to serve up a preview. We caught our first
glimpse of the all-new Insight back in December when we also learned that a
prototype version would debut at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show.
Aside from the automaker's signature "flying
wing" grille, the front fascia also features low-profile LED headlights,
which accentuate the car's overall dynamic character and sloping roofline.
According to Honda, the 2019 Insight will offer class-leading passenger room,
plus premium features such as perforated leather seats, an 8" touchscreen
display and a 7" digital LCD driver's meter. It will also come with Apple
CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, as well as Wi-Fi-enabled over-the-air
updates.
The new Insight
will watch over you using the Honda Sensing suite of advanced safety and
driver-assistive features. This means that buyers will get Collision Mitigation
Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise
Control with Low Speed Follow and Traffic Sign Recognition. Meanwhile, EX spec
models and above will also get Honda LaneWatch.
The Japanese automaker expects the new Insight to
receive an EPA fuel economy rating in excess of 50 mpg (4.7 l/100km). Doing all
the work will be a two-motor hybrid system, using an efficient 1.5-liter petrol
unit, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery back, the latter located
under the rear seats, allowing for a full-size trunk and an available 60/40
split and folding rear seats.
Honda will build the 2019 Insight at their plant in Greensburg, Indiana, alongside the Civic and
CR-V.
