Jeep just revealed a completely new Wrangler. It
rolled out a new Compass barely more than a year ago. It even gave introduced a
facelifted Cherokee in Detroit last week. All the while, the Renegade has
soldiered on virtually unchanged since its introduction in 2014, but it looks
like the littlest of Jeeps is in for a bit of a refresh.
Spotted by the paparazzi at CarPix is a camouflaged
Renegade out testing in the cold, alongside the new Wrangler and a couple of
Alfas for good measure. The disguise aims to keep the changes Jeep has in store
for it out of view from our prying eyes. But that just tells us that changes
are indeed afoot – to the front end and the rear.
Expect new lights and bumpers at both ends, along
with a reshaped grille. And while they’re at it, the engineers will likely
update the interior as well with a bigger infotainment screen, and some
revisions to the powertrain as well. The model will likely launch later this
year as a 2019 model, which ought to keep it current for another few years
until its replacement is ready to take its place – potentially to bring with it
a new Fiat 500X as well, given their shared underpinnings.
Before that happens, we’ll likely see a new
Grand Cherokee arrive to anchor the other end of the Jeep lineup. The current
model did, after all, debut way back in 2009 – which is almost ten years ago
now, if you can believe it.
