Between the new Ranger, the Bullitt Mustang, and the
Edge ST, Ford has plenty of new metal to showcase at the Detroit Auto Show this
year. But the one that's sparked our imagination the most isn't even there.
Alongside all the new models revealed, Ford
announced a new performance SUV in the pipeline. It'll be all-electric, and
it'll be called the Mach 1.
Recognize the name? It was a variant of the Mustang
sold back in the 1970s, and again a few years after the turn of the millennium.
This time it won't be on a pony car, though, adopting a much larger (or at
least taller) form – ostensibly to take on the Tesla Model X.
The project is being developed by Ford Team Edison,
the automaker's electric propulsion division, and is set to debut sometime in
2020. More than that, we don't know at the moment, but the Blue Oval has
released this minute-long teaser video to drum up a little excitement.
