The new Alpine A110 is a lithe little sports car
that builds on the fame of its iconic predecessor. However, if you’re into
classics, then we have the right car for you: a 1974 Renault-Alpine A110 1600
S. The French berlinette was shipped new to Palermo, Italy, and in 1975
competed in the Targa Florio, finishing the event 23rd overall, and 3rd in the
1.6-liter GT class.
Its racing days didn’t last long, though, as in 1975
the car was parked in a garage, where it would remain for the next 25 years. In
2000, its owner had to part ways with it, due to poor health, and sold it to
his father-in-law.
The A110’s second owner returned it to running
condition by taking care of the engine, gearbox, clutch and brakes, and since
then, he drove it occasionally around town to make sure that everything remains
in working order.
Nowadays, this classic Alpine retains its original
roll cage and has an FIA Historical Technical Passport (HTP), so it can
technically compete in vintage racing.
The French classic is listed by RMSothebys for their
Paris auction, which takes place on February 7 at Place Vauban. The auction
house estimates that the Alpine will sell for € 130,000 - € 140,000
(US$ 160,596 - US$ 172,950), which is more than twice the starting price of the current
A110 in its local market.
