Jeep has unveiled the all-new Grand Commander in a
promotional video for the upcoming crossover. Previewed by the Yuntu concept,
the production model has a familiar design but adopts a more conservative front
fascia with a slender grille and LED headlights.
The crossover has also been equipped with a bulging
hood, squared off wheel arches, and a gently sloping roof. Other notable features include a panoramic
glass roof, a dual exhaust system, and plenty of chrome trim. Jeep didn’t
release interior photos but the Grand Commander is slated to have seven seats
which should make it appealing to larger families.
Performance specifications remain unconfirmed but
the company’s Chinese website appears to mention a turbocharged 2.0-liter
engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
This matches up with previous rumors which have suggested the Grand Commander
would use a four-cylinder engine sourced from the Wrangler.
The crossover is expected to debut at the Beijing
Motor Show which kicks off in April. The
model will be built in China and is only expected to be sold in its home
market.
American consumers looking for a seven-seat Jeep
will have to wait until the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are launched. The models are expected to be introduced next
year and they will be built alongside the next-generation Ram Heavy Duty pickups
at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan.
