Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM), the authorised
distributor of Yamaha in Malaysia launched the New Yamaha MT-09 in the country
at RM 47,388.
The New Yamaha MT-09 comes in two colours – Night
Fluo (Grey) and Tech Black; and will be available at all Yamaha Big Bike
authorised dealers by February 2018. The new bike borrows design cues from its
bigger brother, the MT-10. The headlight, tail lamp are LED; and the instrument
cluster is all-digital. The bike was first launched in Europe last year, and is
finally making its presence felt on Malaysian shores.
Powering the motorcycle is an 847 cc in-line
three-cylinder DOHC engine with liquid cooling. The Euro 4 compliant powerplant
makes 115 PS at 10,000 rpm, and 87.5 Nm at 8,500 rpm. The output figures are
the same as the previous generation model. The engine works in tandem with a
6-speed transmission with assist and slipper clutch. A switchable two-mode
traction control and a Quick Shift System are standard.
Coming to the cycle parts, the motorcycle employs
front upside-down forks and a rear monocross unit. The suspension is fully
adjustable. The front end features dual 298 mm discs with radial callipers and
a single 245 mm rear disc, both with ABS as standard. A 120-section front and a
180-section rear wrap the 17-inch alloy wheels. The fuel tank capacity is
14-litres and the bike weighs 193 kg (wet). Kawasaki Z900 is the primary
competitor of the motorcycle.
