We’ve known for over a year now that Renault is
planning a sub-4 metre SUV for India. According to a new report from mint, the
company could introduce this model in concept form at Auto Expo 2018.
A source in the know of the development has said
that the development of the sub-4 metre SUV (codename: Renault HBC) is taking
place at the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s R&D centre in Chennai. The Renault
Kwid was also developed at this facility. The source suggests that Renault has
started working with the vendors too about the plan for the sub-4 metre SUV.
Previous reports have said that the Maruti Vitara Brezza rival will arrive in
2019.
Renault is planning not one, but a number of models
for India. The company is working a premium hatchback that would require an
investment of up to US$ 400 million. This model will also measure under four
metres in length. It should ride on a modified version of the CMF-A platform
and reach the market in 2019.
In addition to the above, Renault will also launch a
sub-4 metre MPV (codename: Renault RBC) and a pure electric car. The former,
offering three-row seating, will arrive this year. The EV will arrive by 2022.
