Toyota Yaris GRMN, 86 GR, Prius c GR Sport and Prius
v GR Sport have finally gone on sale in Japan. While almost all of these models
are readily available at all Toyota dealerships, the Yaris GRMN is limited to
just 150 units; order books will be open on April 9 on a dedicated website and
at GR Garage dealerships nationwide.
We’ll start with the Yaris GRMN, badged as the Vitz
GRMN in Japan – the hot hatch is powered by the same 1.8 litre supercharged
four-cylinder engine as its European twin, making 212 PS at 6,800 rpm and 250
Nm of torque at 4,800 rpm. Available only with a six-speed manual gearbox, it
features Sachs dampers, underbody and strut bracing and a Torsen limited-slip
differential to more effectively put power to the ground.
What differentiates the Japanese model from the
European one is a sportier front bumper with larger air intakes, side skirts, a
more angular rear bumper with a more aggressive diffuser and tail lights and a
tailgate from the pre-facelifted Yaris. Also fitted are 17-inch BBS alloy
wheels, sports seats, a GR-badged instrument cluster, a smaller steering wheel
and four-piston front brake callipers clamping on slotted discs.
Also available is the 86 GR, a development of the
limited-edition 86 GRMN. It gets a full aero kit, 17-inch Rays alloy wheels,
Sachs dampers, Recaro seats, six-piston front brake callipers (four-pots at the
rear) and a Torsen limited slip differential. Still no extra power from the 205
PS 2.0 litre flat-four, unfortunately.
Meanwhile, the Prius c and v GR Sport are basically
appearance packages for the hybrid hatch and MPV respectively. Both get new
front and rear bumpers, sports seats, a GR-badged instrument cluster, a smaller
steering wheel, specially-tuned suspension and extra bracing. The Prius c also
received a genuine leather-wrapped gearknob and additional spot welding points
for added rigidity.
Pricing for the Yaris GRMN is 4,000,000 yen, while the 86 GR retails at 4,968,000 yen. Meanwhile, the
Prius c GR Sport is priced at 2,332,800 yen for the two-wheel drive
model and 2,538,000 yen for four-wheel drive, and the Prius v GR
Sport is priced at 3,351,240 yen for 2WD and 3,556,440 yen for 4WD.
