A new report from Autocar India
says that the company will launch the 2018 Audi RS 5 Coupe in India next month. The second-gen Audi RS 5 Coupe is the first Audi
Sport model to feature the new RS design language. It differentiates itself
from the Audi A5 Coupe with a broader and flatter high-sheen black Singleframe
grille that features new honeycomb structure and bears both the quattro lettering
and the RS 5 emblem.
Beneath that unique grille with an aluminium-look frame,
is a blade in contrasting colour that runs between the air inlets and connects
them with one another. Speaking of the side air inlets, they too have adopted
the 3D honeycomb structure. Needless to say, the high-performance variant
sports RS-specific front bumper as well.
At the rear, RS-specific diffuser insert, oval
tailpipes of the RS exhaust system, vertical air outlets on the outer edges of
the rear lights and a surface-mounted spoiler lip in black or carbon (optional)
round up the highlights. The Sonoma green metallic colour is exclusive to the
RS variant.
The all-new Audi RS 5 Coupe continues with the
sporty theme inside with a black colour scheme and contrasting red stitching.
Other features worth noting are flat-bottomed RS sport leather steering wheel,
stainless steel pedals, RS sport seats with rhombus pattern and embossed RS
emblem and carbon decorative trim. The RS sport seats are optionally available
in fine Nappa leather with honeycomb pattern and contrast stitching, and even
in perforated Milano leather.
The heart of the 2018 Audi RS 5 Coupe is an all-new
2.9-litre TFSI bi-turbo petrol engine that churns out 450 PS at 5,700-6,700 rpm
and 600 Nm of torque at 1,900-5,000 rpm. The quattro permanent AWD system
featuring a self-locking central differential and the 8-speed tiptronic
automatic transmission are standard. Rear sport differential with RS-specific
tuning for an even more dynamic response during acceleration and cornering is
available optionally.
The 2018 Audi RS 5 Coupe sprints from 0 to 100 km/h
in 3.9 seconds, and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. The
achievable top speed increases to 280 km/h on specifying the optional RS
dynamic package. 19-inch forged wheels with 265/35 tyres are standard, but
20-inch wheels with 275/30 tyres are available optionally. RS steel brakes
(front: 375 mm, rear: 330 mm) are standard, and the six-piston callipers with
RS logos are painted in black or red (optional). As an option, Audi offers
ceramic brakes featuring six-piston callipers and perforated 400 mm disks at
the front.
The all-new Audi RS 5 should have a pricing close to
INR 1.2 crore (ex-showroom).
