The facelifted Subaru Outback
with EyeSight at the Singapore Motor Show, would make
its Malaysian debut in the second quarter of 2018. While that is still a few
months away, an official price list from Subaru Malaysia’s website has provided
us with the vehicle’s tentative specifications and price.
The sole Outback 2.5i-S EyeSight variant will go for
RM 239,688.40 on-the-road without insurance, making it about RM10k more than the
pre-facelift model. As before, the Outback will come fully imported (CBU) from
Japan.
The updated Outback
will be powered by a 2.5 litre boxer-four engine that serves up 175 PS at 5,800
rpm and 235 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Drive goes to all four
wheels via a Lineartronic CVT and the automaker’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive
system.
Also part of the powertrain are the SI Drive and
X-Mode functions – the latter providing enhanced off-roading capabilities – similar
to what you’ll find in other Subaru models like the Forester and new XV.
The equipment list includes LED headlights with
C-shaped LED DRLs, powered sunroof, active grille shutter and a set of 18-inch
alloy wheels. The auto levelling headlights come with an automatic on/off
function and are steering responsive as well.
Moving inside, there’s a new eight-inch touchscreen
infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. A
Harman/Kardon sound system, plus a range of other media inputs and improved
voice recognition, supplements the entertainment system.
Other items include a dual-zone climate control
system with rear vents, rear USB ports, powered driver’s seat with memory
function, electronic parking brake, smart entry with push start, PIN code
access, powered tailgate and paddle shifters.
On the safety side of things, the Outback gets seven
airbags – dual front, side, curtain and driver’s knee – as well as Vehicle
Dynamics Control (VDC), blind spot monitor, hill start assist, Active Torque
Vectoring and of course, the EyeSight system.
