High-performance station wagons are no strangers to
Audi, with the company currently testing the Avant version of the 2019 S6. The
fifth generation of the company’s executive sedan is at the final stages of
development, with Audi expected to reveal the new A6 at the upcoming Geneva
Motor Show.
Those lusting after the more powerful S6 version
however will have to wait until 2019. The sportiest A6 this side of an RS model
will follow the downsize trend, ditching the 4.0-liter V8 for the sake of a
twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6.
It’s essentially the engine used by the Porsche
Panamera and the Audi RS4 and RS5 models, but the latest reports
suggest a power figure of more than 450 hp. If true, this will make the 2019 S6
more powerful than the original RS6 and make it capable of running sub-4
seconds for the 0-100 km/h procedure.
The next S6 will be distinguished by
a more aggressive body kit featuring larger air inlets and sharper edges around
the bumpers, alongside with bigger wheels and brakes. A quad-exhaust setup will
also be there.
The cabin will follow the same recipe with the A7
and the A8, meaning a tech-heavy dashboard that features a dual-touchscreen
setup for the infotainment and climate controls, along with the spicier S
touches, meaning sportier seats, a flat-bottom steering wheels and shiny trim
bits.
All this performance and technology might lead some
people into thinking why would someone ever need an RS6. Set to launch in 2020,
the mighty RS6 is reportedly going to borrow the crazy 671 hp plug-in hybrid
powertrain of the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid in order to show the BMW M5
who’s the real speed king.
