We’ve seen the new Mercedes G-Class in AMG G63 spec.
We’ve seen it with the optional Night Package. What we haven’t seen are the two
together. Leave it to the Benz enthusiasts at the MB Passion blog, then, to
fill in that particular gap.
Not unlike what we saw on the Edition 1, the Night
Package blacks out the turn signals, the wing-mirror housings, the ring around
the spare wheel carrier, the front and rear bumper trim, the side skirts, and
underbody protection.
It also tints the rear windows and comes with 21-
(or optional 22-) inch wheels. Only unlike the Edition 1, there’s no red
accents, and production will only be limited to how many Mercedes can sell.
Whatever trim package you do or don’t go for, the
G63 packs AMG’s latest 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 – tuned to deliver 577
horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels through a nine-speed
automatic transmission. That’s said to be enough to hustle the big off-roader
to 60 in just 4.4 seconds.
You could always go for the standard G550
instead, and still get the Night Package. You can even order it up with an AMG
appearance pack, too. And you can bet that, between the inevitable G65 and
Maybach versions, there’ll be more variations on the theme to come over the
years ahead. The previous model was, after all, produced for nearly 40 years
before this new one arrived, so we’d say Daimler has some time to flesh out the
rest of the rock-crawling lineup.
