Mitsubishi unveiled the Outlander
PHEV today as the 2019MY. The
Japanese plug-in hybrid SUV is described as being better overall than the model
it replaces, getting many updates beneath the slightly modified skin.
The revisions include a 2.4-liter Atkinson cycle
petrol engine which replaces the previous 2.0-liter unit, generator and rear
motor outputs increased by 10 percent, and a larger 13.8kWh lithium-ion battery,
compared to the previous 12kWh one.
Mitsubishi hasn’t released any specs of the 2019 Outlander PHEV yet. However,
it’s probably safe to assume that it will be a tad faster, and offer a longer
electric range than the current model.
A special ‘Snow’ mode is also part of the facelift.
It does exactly what its name says, namely improve traction on snow- and
ice-covered roads, and it’s joined by a ‘Sport’ mode, which allows drivers to
enjoy the SUV at its full potential.
Several changes have been made to its exterior too,
such as the addition of new LED headlights and rectangular fog lamp bezels. The
tweaked grille is also there, along with the front skid plate, larger
roof-mounted spoiler, and different 18-inch alloy wheels.New seats, revised
switchgear, leather upholstery, new instrument panel, different trim, tweaked
rear vents, and others, signal the Outlander PHEV’s revisions inside.
The 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander will be presented at
the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, on March 6, and it will go on sale in selected
European markets in early fall. Sharing the same space at the company’s stand
in Switzerland will be the e-Evolution Concept.
