Alongside unveiling the second-generation Tesla Roadster in November 2017, Elon Musk made the audacious claim that it would reach 96 km/h in 1.9 seconds.

We’re yet to see if that time is achievable by the Tesla but small Japanese marque Aspark has shown its Owl prototype achieving such a blistering time. indicating that Musk’s claim wasn’t so outlandish after all.


This Aspark Owl was unveiled last year and like the Roadster, utilizes an all-electric powertrain. With roughly 1000 hp on tap, it recently reached 100 km/h in 1.9 seconds during testing. A clip of the Japanese supercar shows the insane feat being achieved on a very short ribbon of tarmac. It may not be the most appropriate testing facility but the car seems to achieve the feat with relative ease.


As brisk as the Owl’s acceleration is, it’s worth noting one significant factor in its speed. The tires. Look closely and you’ll notice that they come from Hoosier and are probably slicks designed for drag racing. Throw on a set of road-legal rubber and the same acceleration number probably can’t be replicated.

Aspark intends on producing and selling 50 examples of the Owl.
