The first-generation BMW X4 didn’t receive the full
M treatment but that’s going to change when the second-generation model is
introduced later this year. Set to battle the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe, the
all-new X4 M will be a high-performance crossover that features a sporty front
fascia with a prominent grille and massive air intakes. Moving further back, we
can see stylish wheels which cover a high-performance braking system with cross
drilled rotors and massive calipers.
The aggressive styling continues at the rear as the
X4 M appears to have two small roof spoilers and a full-width spoiler on the
top of the tailgate. Of course, one of the biggest indicators that this isn’t
an ordinary X4 is the four-tailpipe sports exhaust system.
The X4 and X4 M will ride on the CLAR architecture
which should result in significant weight savings. There’s no word on specifics
but the X3 dropped up to 55 kg in its recent redesign thanks to the
increased use of aluminum and state-of the-art composites.
A twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine will
reportedly reside under the hood and produce around 450 hp. This would
be a serious boost over the outgoing X4 M40i which has 355 hp and 464 Nm of torque. In the latter model, the engine enables the crossover
to run from 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds before hitting a top speed of up to 241 km/h.
