David Brown Automotive (DBA) is ready for take-off
with their third project, which follows hot on the heels of the Speedback GT
and Mini Remastered. Teased for the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, the vehicle is
being referred to as the company’s “vision of a high-performance classic Grand
Tourer”.
The new model, which will be presented to the world
on March 6, at 11:45am CET (5:45am EST), will be hand built at their new
headquarters in Silverstone, and offered in a limited number. Launched in 2013
in Coventry, before moving to Silverstone last year, the small British car
manufacturer is known for launching classic-looking vehicles equipped with the
latest technology.
The latest one is a classic Mini, built from the
ground up with new body panels. It uses a 1,275cc engine rated at around
90-100hp that’s mated to a four-speed manual gearbox and features upgraded
brakes and suspension.
Each car gets LED taillights, hand-trimmed
upholstery inside, and built-in infotainment system that supports smartphone
connectivity, in addition to the remote central locking, push-button start,
keyless go, and USB charging ports.
The Speedback GT, however, is much more exciting. It
looks like an Aston Martin DB5, and uses the chassis and powertrain of a Jaguar
XKR. It puts out 510 PS and 625 Nm of torque and needs 4.8s ec
to reach 100 km/h from a standstill, before maxing out at 250 km/h. It also features an infotainment system and plenty of modern
features.
