A report published by MoneyControl states that
Mahindra will be rolling out a new 2 L diesel engine that meets BS 6 emission
norms. The engine will arrive before the BS 6 regulations are enforced April
2020 onwards.
According to the report, the new engine will be
lighter and more fuel efficient and promises lower NVH levels as well. The
Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra XUV500 are likely to employ this new engine upon
its rollout. Both vehicles currently feature the 2.2 L mHawk diesel engine. In
the Scorpio’s case, the peak power and torque figures stand at 120 BHP/140 BHP
and 280 Nm/320 Nm respectively depending on the trim. The Mahindra XUV500 has a
max power and torque rating of 140 BHP and 320 Nm respectively, but those
figures will go up with the arrival of the facelift.
The 2.2 L mHawk diesel unit also powers the Xylo and
the TUV300 Plus. The former, according to the same report, will be axed before
the new safety and emissions regulations kick in owing to its poor performance
in the passenger vehicle market.
Mahindra recently confirmed that it will launch four
new products in India over the course of the 2018-19 fiscal year. Kicking off
proceedings will be the U321 MPV, followed by the SsangYong Tivoli based S201,
the Mahindra badged SsangYong Rexton, and possibly, the Mahindra e-KUV100.
