Mercedes recently pulled the wraps off the all-new
A-Class and now we’re getting our first look at the upcoming A35 sedan. Set to
battle the Audi S3, the AMG-tuned car will follow in the footsteps of the A35
hatchback and adopt a stylish design that echoes the new CLS.
The front end
will largely carryover but bigger changes occur aft of the A-pillar as the
model adopts a conventional sedan body that isn’t as practical as the hatchback
nor as sporty as the next-generation CLA. While the styling doesn’t scream sports sedan, the
model has a dual exhaust system and a high-performance braking system with
cross drilled discs.
The interior should largely carryover from the
hatchback and this is a good thing as the model has a significantly improved
cabin that finally feels worthy of the Mercedes emblem. As a result, we can
expect a digital instrument cluster and a high-tech infotainment system which
uses the new Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) interface. In the hatchback,
the displays measures 7- or 10.25-inches.
Power will reportedly be provided by a turbocharged
2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that features EQ Boost technology. The
mild-hybrid tech is expected to enable the car to produce around 300 PS.
There’s no word on how fast the car will be but the
A250 hatchback runs from 0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds thanks to its
turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 224 PS and
350 Nm of torque. Given the power difference between the two
models, it wouldn’t be surprising if the A35 can accomplish the same task in
the low- to mid-five second range.
