Toyota has introduced a rugged variant of the Toyota
Yaris called Toyota Yaris Cross. The crossover derivative is now on sale in
South Africa.
The Toyota Yaris Cross has a distinctive exterior
with styling add-ons. It features a skid plate at the front and rear,
over-fenders, black side mouldings and black roof rails. Toyota does not equip
it with front fog lamps, though, which is just odd for a car with SUV styling
as its USP. Other highlights of the Toyota Yaris Cross include LED DRLs,
16-inch alloy wheels, leather gearshift lever and gearshift knob and
touchscreen infotainment system with navigation.
It has the same dimensions as the regular variant.
It measures 4,145 mm in length, 1,730 mm in width and 1,475 mm in height. It
has the same ground clearance as the standard variant – 135 mm. Under the hood,
is the 2NR-FE 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i petrol engine that produces 108 PS and 140 Nm of torque. It sends power to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual
transmission. A CVT option is available in the standard variant but not the
Cross variant.
The Toyota Yaris Cross costs R 2,68,500 in South Africa.
