UM is working on a 230 cc café racer for the Indian
market, reports BikeWale. The company will launch the bike next year.
The 230 cc mill in the café racer will be the same
unit that powers the upcoming UM Renegade Duty. The website’s sources reveal
that the company also wanted to develop a scrambler, but gave up on the idea as
its value and sales did not justify the efforts of research and development. As
per the media report, UM is giving utmost importance to the pricing to attract
a larger spectrum of customers. Expect the motorcycle to undercut the
now-discontinued Royal Enfield Continental GT in terms of pricing.
By the time the brand launches the bike, it would
rival the upcoming Cleveland Misfit. The Misfit will be launched at the 2018
Auto Expo in the country, next month. At present, the Renegade Sports S is the
least expensive offering. The brand’s affordability will go up a notch with the
launch of the Renegade Duty, thanks to its smaller engine with air cooling. The
café racer would be the brand’s first of its kind in the country. Expect more
details about the upcoming bikes at the expo. Later this year, the brand will
also reportedly launch the UM Renegade Electric.
It would be the brand’s first
electric offering and will be the first electric cruiser in the Indian market.
