Audi has announced plans to stage the North American debut of the 2019 A6 in New York. The company was coy on US-specifications but the model features an evolutionary design which follows in the footsteps of newer vehicles such as the A7 and A8. Notable highlights include a wider singleframe grille, sportier bodywork and optional HD Matrix LED headlights.

The 2019 A6 has grown in size as it now measures 4,939 millimeters long, 1,886 millimeters wide and 1,457 millimeters tall with a wheelbase that spans 2,924 millimeters. This helps to create a more accommodating cabin which offers additional head and shoulder room as well as extra rear seat legroom.

The interior largely carries over from the A7 and it features the MMI touch response system which replaces the previous rotary dial with two touchscreen displays. The main infotainment system measures 10.1-inches while the lower 8.6-inch display provides access to the climate control system and other convenience features.

Audi says the new MMI touch response operating system is easier to use as it has a smartphone-like interface which allows for drag-and-drop operations. The model also offers natural-language control which allows drivers to say things such as “I’m cold.” The car will then respond by asking “What temperature would you like to set the cabin to?”

European models are offered with an assortment of different options and many choices will likely carryover to the US variant. As a result, we can expect heated, ventilated and massaging front seats as well as a panoramic glass roof and a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system. We can also expect an ambient lighting package and an air quality package that features an air ionizer and a fragrance diffuser.

Audi declined to mention performance specifications but confirmed the car will have a turbocharged V6 engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The company is obviously talking about the turbocharged 3.0-liter TFSI V6 which develops 340 PS and 500 Nm of torque. It is connected to a seven-speed S tronic transmission and a standard all-wheel drive system which enables the sedan to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds before hitting a top speed of 250 km/h.
