The 2019 BMW 8-Series Coupe has been snapped on the highway, the heavily camouflaged
prototype has a stylish silhouette as we can see a long hood, a rakish
windscreen and a gently sloping roof. This particular model also has five-spoke
alloy wheels and a sporty dual exhaust system with metallic surrounds.
These photos aren’t too revealing but we’ve seen
countless spy photos and teaser images of the 8-Series over the past few
months. A couple of undisguised photos have also surfaced and they showed the
upcoming model will have a prominent grille and slender headlights which echo
the 8-Series concept. The photos also revealed the coupe will have slim LED
taillights and a ventilated rear fascia.
Engine options are expected to be shared with
7-Series and include an entry-level model with a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo
six-cylinder engine producing around 335 hp. We can also expect an
850i with a 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8 developing 455 hp. It is
possible though that BMW may skip the 850i moniker and introduce an M
Performance-prepped M850i with the same M550i V8, perhaps tuned to deliver
closer to 500 hp.
There have also been rumors about a hybrid variant
and a V12 model but both remain unconfirmed at the moment. One thing that’s
beyond a doubt, is a high-performance M8. BMW has already confirmed the model
will be available in Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe guise and all are
expected to use the 4.4-liter M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine from the M5. In the
sedan, it produces 600 PS and 750 Nm of torque. This
enables the all-wheel drive model to rocket from 0-100 km/h in 3.4
seconds before hitting a top speed of up to 305 km/h.
