Kia has quietly confirmed what everyone already
knew: the new Ceed Sportwagon will be unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show,
on Tuesday. What you see pictured here is a render, but the estate, which
builds upon the all-new third-generation car unveiled last month, will sport an
identical front end to the hatch, with the only differences being obviously at
the rear.
It will have a longer rear overhang, more generous
boot capacity, and probably some suspension tweaks to help its increased
hauling abilities.
Buyers will have to choose from the same petrol and
diesel engines shared with the hatchback, mated to either a six-speed manual or
a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, depending on the unit.
Kia’s compact family is believed to include more
members, which besides the Ceed five-door hatchback and estate, is believed to
gain a new Shooting Brake version. Previewed by the Pro_Cee’d concept last year
in Frankfurt, it’s a more stylish version of the Sportwagon, with a sloping
roofline.
A Ceed GT hot hatch appears to be on the table as
well, using the powertrain of the Hyundai i30 N, but with less power to avoid
cannibalization. Finally, a new compact SUV, based on the new Ceed, might
arrive close to the end of next year, slotting under the Sportage.
The Korean automaker doesn’t appear to be planning a
three-door version, as the Pro_Cee’d model won’t make a comeback.
