The new generation Kia Soul is currently in testing
phase and, unsurprisingly, it will be joined by a zero-emission version. Set to
replace the current Soul EV, the new generation will reportedly share its
platform with the Niro EV and Hyundai Kona EV, according to etnews.
Now, the latter was already unveiled, and it
promises up to 470 km of range on a single charge when equipped with
the 64kWh battery pack. However, the all-electric Soul will apparently get only
300 km of range, which is less than the Hyundai, but a significant
improvement over the current model’s 179 km range.
The Korean publication gives no details on the
battery pack, but if the information is correct, then it should have with a
smaller capacity than that of its Hyundai sibling – and if it eventually gains
the latter’s battery, then it will likely be offered on higher trim levels.
In addition to the mechanical upgrades, the 2019
Soul will maintain its boxy shape, but it will have a larger footprint compared
to its predecessor. Kia will launch the new Soul later this year, probably
during the second half, powered by traditional petrol and probably diesel
engines, too, and the fully electric variant should join the lineup later.
