Mercedes recently used the Geneva Motor Show to
introduce a more powerful version of the X-Class and it appears more changes
are on the horizon. This heavily camouflaged X-Class is virtually identical to the standard
model but it features a significantly longer rear bed. There’s no word on how
long the bed is, but the standard box measures 1587 mm long.
However, considering the X-Class is based on the Nissan Navara, the new bed may
measure approximately 1,788 mm long.
Regardless of the final dimensions, the longer rear
bed should help to improve the X-Class’ practicality. It should also make the
model more appealing to customers who routinely haul long items such as drywall
and wood.
Since the bed is the only thing that appears to have
been changed, engine options should carryover. As a result, we can expect a
2.3-liter four-cylinder diesel with outputs of 163 PS and 190 PS.
There should also be an X 350d 4MATIC variant which
features a 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine that produces 258 PS and 550 Nm of torque. It is connected to a seven-speed automatic
transmission and an all-wheel drive system which enables the short box truck to
accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds before hitting a top speed of 205
km/h.
