FCA has introduced the 2019
Ram 1500 Tradesman at The Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana. Aimed at
construction companies and small businesses, the 1500 Tradesman is a work truck
which favors practicality over creature comforts. The model has a
relatively basic exterior with a black grille, black steel bumpers and a
locking tailgate. The truck will be available exclusively in Quad Cab and Crew
Cab configurations with either a 5 foot 7 inch or 6 foot 4 inch long bed.
The work truck theme continues in the cabin as
drivers will find 40/20/40 split bench seats which are available in either
cloth or vinyl. Other features include power windows / locks, a remote keyless
entry system and a Uconnect infotainment system with a five-inch display. The
truck also has vinyl flooring, a 12-volt power outlet and a rearview camera.
An assortment of different options will be available
including a spray-in bedliner, a trailer brake controller and an off-road
package with a factory suspension lift. Buyers can also order an anti-spin or
electric-locking rear differential.
While the Tradesman isn’t as luxurious as the
Laramie Longhorn, the truck can be equipped with three different engines
including a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 developing 305 hp and 364 Nm of torque. Buyers can also order a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 which has 395 hp and 555 Nm of torque. Finally, there’s a 5.7-liter HEMI V8
with an eTorque mild hybrid system.
The Ram 1500 Tradesman will be priced from US$ 31,695
excluding a US$ 1,645 destination charge. This is a significant increase as the
previous model started at US$ 27,095 and had a destination charge of US$ 1,395.
